I spent a lot of money this weekend, but I don’t regret the $20 I dropped on this hardcover beauty. (Especially since climate-change denier Michael Crichton is dead now and can’t benefit!)

Today's Free Million-Dollar Idea
So here’s a stream of the terrible-sounding “Thriller” / “Heads Will Roll” mashup they’re going to do on Glee after the Super Bowl. But I have to ask: nobody in the writer’s room thought of doing an all-Jock Jams episode after the Super Bowl? Really? Because, uh, that is the obvious correct answer. You’re welcome.

I’m not a fan of Jesus at all, but I still go to Chick-fil-A maybe once a week,”...
– TONY PARKER OF SAN ANTONIO: NOT A FAN OF JESUS (via franklinmillz)
—————
As a gay man I personally struggle with my faith (in Chick-Fil-A) quite often, but I always find myself returning to my house of worship (Chick-Fil-A) for prayer (a Chick-Fil-A sandwich).

Liveblogging the Slow Leak Of Lady Gaga’s “Born... →
Gaga is releasing the lyrics one snippet at a time to a ton of different online news outlets — Perez, Gaga Daily, Billboard, Popjustice, Rolling Stone. As stunts go, this is totally hilarious and kind of inspired in a make-something-out-of-nothing way.

Pitchfork TV: Savage Skulls & Douster, "Bad Gal"... →
Despite the presence of distressed denim, stuttery GIF images, automobile misadventures, and hands placed on mouths to denote surprise, this is not a worthy counterpoint to the “Telephone” video. Still worth a watch, though.

My upstairs neighbor will be interviewing every queen voted off RuPaul’s Drag Race this season, which is an important job and I think we should all be grateful to him. (I have elided the first queen’s name, in case you’re DVRing, although you really should be watching it live, obviously.)

Archie drops the Comics Code…Wertham dead... →
The Comics Code no longer exists. I am a tiny bit sad about this, but it changes nothing about my plans to get a Comics Code tattoo. (Just the bit with the twinned C’s and the A, probably, but we’ll leave room for the rest.)

ROADTRIP UPDATE
So I am now thinking the itinerary would be New Orleans > Austin > Carlsbad Caverns* > Roswell > Alamogordo/White Sands > Palm Springs > Los Angeles, with stops in Houston and Tuscon for sanity. I am getting sort of serious about this! Now all I need is approximately $4000 for plane fare, car rental, gas, and lodging. Sigh.
*Thank you for this suggestion, it was totally on...

ROADTRIP ALERT
So in the wake of watching Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (all good stories should start this way), I am semi-seriously plotting a two-week road trip, potentially from New Orleans to Los Angeles, potentially taking place somewhere in the end-of-March to end-of-May corridor. Places I must see along this route:
White Sands / Alamogordo / nuclear test sites
Austin, TX
Palm Springs / Joshua Tree...

– From Popjustice’s long and rather perceptive post about the possible effects of “on air/on sale,” the long-overdue practice of putting a single on sale on iTunes as soon as it begins to play on radio.

Two great surprises in one post: There’s a new Yelle song, and Nick Minichino is writing for Popdust. GOOD STUFF ON ALL FRONTS.

It’s so incredibly important that I see this, so if you find out when the Radio City date goes on sale, don’t be a stranger. I mean, it’s gonna be unmissable just for the “Together Again” tribute to Michael alone. (And you know she’s going to do that, because it’s a total slam-dunk; if she doesn’t, she needs Prison For Bitches even more than I...

My first reaction to Jay & Kanye's "H.A.M.":
I really hope we’re not swinging the pendulum back towards the hyper-aggressive over-masculinity of Waka Flocka Flame et al., because I was really enjoying the slow transformation of all our biggest rap stars into Victorian dandies.

Susan Boyle Has a Gloomy Christmas Gift for You --... →
This was also a really fantastic piece. I had a similar “oh holy SHIT her people are smart” moment in a Best Buy in Florida when I finally put together all the resonances of calling the album The Gift: the canny reinforcement of the idea that your mom would want this, the Christian dog-whistling that says “God gave me this voice,” etc. And yes, covering “Don’t...

An Incomplete List Of Soundtracks I Own For Movies...
The Boxer - I’m a Gavin Friday completist.
The End Of Violence - I was once a U2 completist. Plus, Wenders movies have hot soundtracks.
Great Expectations (1998) - I liked Tori Amos a lot. It was the 90s, leave me alone. And they filmed this in my hometown, though that’s irrelevant when you haven’t actually seen the movie.
In The Name Of The Father - great Sinead tune, and...

maura:
or should i call them ‘music typists’?
I’m probably in a bad mood because, for some reason, I saw more snobbish, short-sighted, (OK fine there’s no other word for it) “rockist” comments and blog posts today than I have seen in like five years. BUT. I am willing to guess a lot of music critics haven’t ever heard a Justin Bieber song, or they’ve only...

Last Night's Dream
I attempt to sell Lea Michele on the glories of Ciara while riding a school bus. I then save Kanye West from an assassin’s bullet (he is very grateful), in the process getting shot myself, and am taken to medical assistance by the X-Men. Later, after I have seemingly forgotten about being shot, a seven-foot-tall drunk tries to pick a fight with me in a city square.
(Then I woke up, and...
